Waterfalls and Hills

This weekend has seen Lyns’ not so little sister Lauren and her boyfriend Thomas come to visit us for a few days.  We decided to head over to the Yorkshire Dales for the day to make the most of, what looked like it could be, good weather.    We were worried driving over as the rain came down but, as it turned out, there was no rain for us!

We headed to Malham and then onto Gordale Scar.   We were lucky enough to get parked so it saved us the walk over.   It was a lovely walk up the the Scar itself and, believe it or not, the sun shone brightly.   James and Jess had loads of fun splashing in the river.   The girls kindly let Thomas and I have a play with our cameras.   Although, in Thomas’ case, he was cashing in the credits he had earns earlier in the week having taken Lauren to Meadowhall to do some shopping.

There was a fair amount of water running through the gorge after the recent rain and it was awesome to see.   We had arrived reasonably early and there were not many people around.   By the time we left after lunch, the hoards were streaming in.

After we had been down into the scar James decided he wanted to walk to Malham Cove.   It is a mile or so all up hill to get there.   He was a little star as he trekked all the way there and it was not until the last bit that he started demanding a snack.   Even mummy moaned more than James!

At the top of the cove, we all sat down to have a relax.   James loved the limestone paving, especially the very deep gaps between the rocks.   He wanted to know who lived down there.   I did suggest lowering him down to have a look, but he was not too keen.

After a good relax we headed back down.   It was a rapid trip back to the car as it was down hill all the way.   Even James had a spring in his step as he knew there was a sausage roll at the bottom for him.   Once we had all eaten, a hot beef roll from the kiosk at the bottom, it was time to head back to York.   A lovely trip to the countryside.
