Chester Zoo
September 2023, wow, that seems a life time ago. I was still in my 30’s for one thing. We had always wanted to take James to Chester Zoo. Lyns and I had been there years before when we had met mum and dad in Chester for one of dad’s big birthdays. We decided to go for the weekend, meaning we could explore Chester on the Saturday and then go to the zoo on the Sunday. Having never been into Chester itself before, we took it as an opportunity to explore. We had planned to walk around the city walls, but the weather was not in our favour.
No spendy spendy mummy - I have trained him well!
Due to the weather we spent a long time exploring Chester Cathedral which is stunning. Maybe not quite the same as York Minster, we are spoilt living in York, but definitely up there. Whilst not religious myself, there is something you cannot help find magical about cathedrals, so impressive how they were built without any of the benefits of today’s technology.
After filling ourselves to bursting with a premier inn breakfast, it was time to head to the zoo. We got there for opening time and to our surprise there were no queues. Despite the weather the previous day, we were greeted by a glorious autumn day.
While exploring the butterfly house at the end of the day, we spotted two adorable dormice, we think, scurrying around on the floor. They had no fear of people, running between peoples legs. Luckily it was quite quiet at that time of day so I managed to get a couple of good photos of them. Despite seeing all the wonderful animals in the zoo, these turned out to be my favourite photographs of the day.
With the zoo closing, it was time to head back home. We had had an exciting weekend, exploring several places we had not been before. Chester Zoo is wonderful and we will definitely visit again!
