Last Sunday saw James have an action packed day. Not one fun thing to go to, but two. First up was the funday at his nursery.. Every year the nursery holds a fun day to raise funds for charity. This year it was the Make a Wish Foundation. We arrived as it started and there was loads to do. There were stalls, a miniature steam railway, animals to stroke, loads.
James started off with the animals. He even stroked the cow which was lovely to see. After that, we went to see the reptiles and the spider. James was full of tales from when we went to the conservation centre at Askham Bryan. Much to Lyns’ delight, James enlightened her with all sorts of stories that put her mind at rest whilst staring into the eyes of a python.
After the animals James headed to the Stretch and Grow section, that was, until, the whistle off the steam train floated over the air. Like a lion scenting it’s prey, James’ head shot up and he was off in search of his own prey. We arrived at the station to find a team of gents stood round scratching their heads. James stood patiently whilst the train was made ready and the boiler brought up to operating pressure. He collected his ticket and was the first person on.
After a quick break for a snack from the cake stall, James was straight back onto the train. Three times he rode it and enjoyed it every time.
All too soon though, it was time to leave the funday. James has another date. This time with a birthday party at the Askham Bryan Conservation Centre. It was a really nice party. The first couple of hours were a show and tell session where all the children got to stroke and touch a series of reptiles. Amazing to see how little fear they had, unlike some of the adults who were found stuck to walls on the other side of the room, especially when the snake came out.
After the show and tell, there was time for a walk around the centre before lunch. All the kids had great fun. Then it was time to head back up to the main building for a party tea along with cake.
After the lunch everyone went their separate ways. We headed to the park to let’s the kids blow off some steam for an hour or so. The little monkeys were up and over everything, certainly some hearts in mouths moments.
Just before we had to leave, there was a meet the bugs session. James was a little too tired by this point and was really apprehensive where he had been super confident earlier in the day. Lyns on the other had had grown in confidence and even stroked a cockroach, pity I missed the look of revulsion on her face as she did though.
We left the Centre with a very tired little boy, so tired he was asleep before we hit the main road. Such a lovely action packed day.
