Fifty Years and Still Going Strong

It has taken me a few weeks to get round to writing this post, for various reasons.   I would love to say I had been having some wild adventures but, alas, no, only the mundane life of work!   At the start of April, Mum and Dad celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.   To mark this momentous occasion they booked a cottage in Sandsend, near Whitby.   James had gone up with them on the Thursday and Lyns and I travelled to join them once I got home from work on the Friday evening.   When we arrived we were greeted by a very excited James who showed us every room in the cottage, multiple times and meticulously explaining what each room was used for.

By the Saturday, the glorious weather from the week before had blown away and we were met with a wall of fog blowing in from the sea.   I started the day with a ten mile run, running along the cliff top path to the next bay, Runswick Bay.   It was a bitterly cold run but worth while as it was very scenic.   Once I had got back and showered we headed off to Whitby.

It was no surprise that Lyns and James managed to sniff out a cafe and before we knew it, we had headed for cake and drinks.    To be fair, the cakes were really nice, and this, with a pasty, became lunch.

Post coffee/tea/hot chocolate and cake, we took a slow meander back to the car.   By this point we were all starting to get a little cold.

This is what we have to look forward to - our little hoodie in the making.

When we got back, Lyns and a James went for a nap so I headed out to the beach with my camera for a walk.   Never going to win any awards but I enjoyed the walk and dodging all the waves.

We had booked a table at the local pub for dinner and what a dinner it was.   Dad and I shared the mixed seafood starter.   When we asked the gentleman serving how big a portion it was, he said it was an ok portion.   My goodness it would have done as a main course for the whole table.    This set the tone as the food was not only very tasty but the portions were huge.   We rolled out of the pub after dinner and enjoyed a very slow walk back to the cottage.

The next morning saw the weather improve somewhat so we went for brunch in the seaside cafe.

After a light brunch we headed to the beach.   We built a huge wall around nana, much to her amusement until she realised she could not get out of it, such a good job we had done.   We had to knock down part of the wall to let her escape.   We had promised James oe last trip to the beach so we made it a good one.

We headed home after we had let nana escape, had we have not helped her, the tide may well have swallower her up.

We left Nana and Grandad to enjoy a few more days in the cottage, this time with some peace and quiet as they no longer had any of us with them.   It had been a lovely couple of days, as usual though, far too short.   It was really special to be able to spend their big anniversary with them both.
