After the Storm
After the Storm

Taken during our holiday to the Isle of Harris in Summer 2019. Granny and Grandad were looking after the little man and Lyns wanted to get out of the house to blow the cobwebs away so we headed to one of our favourite places on the Island.

The wind was still blowing hard after the previous day’s storm and the waves were smashing into the shore. I got this picture just as the the sun broke through the clouds for about five minutes and caught the waves beautifully as they broke, the only patch of sunshine to be seen.

I bought a drone for our holiday to the Outer Hebrides in 2019 and it was amazing to get some pictures from unusual angles. I love the simplicity of this image, looking down at the waves gently rolling in one early morning

Under the Rock
Under the Rock

A lovely day spent with James, Nana and Grandad at Brimham Rocks. James had so much fun exploring all the rocks and squeezing through the tiny gaps

Gannet in Flight
Gannet in Flight

Staying on the Isle of Harris gave loads of wonderful opportunities to see wildlife that is common there but difficult to see elsewhere. From our cottage, you could see the Gannets diving and fishing out to sea. One morning the weather closed in with strong winds blowing onto the land, pushing the gannets into shore. I grabbed my camera and made the most of the opportunity.

Little Beach
Little Beach

I took a walk on about the only dry morning of our holiday to the Isle of Harris. I found a lovely beach called little beach and timed my visit just as the sun was starting to hit the waves. It was a lovely, albeit cold, walk with some wonderful views.

Strond Rocks
Strond Rocks

A wee morning walk to the seashore the day after a storm saw the swell remain but mercifully no rain.

Kynance Cove
Kynance Cove

Having been to Kynance Cove a couple of years ago in truly horrible weather, it was nice to go back on our recent holiday and it be beautiful weather, again bringing its challenges to photography.

Lynsey very kindly let me off the leash for half an hour whilst she had a cream tea, and this is one of the images I captured.

Crantock Sunset
Crantock Sunset

Being on the west coast of Cornwall for last year’s holiday meant that sunsets were the most picturesque part of the day. Being on a family holiday made it difficult to disappear for any length of time around dinner and bed time. Luckily, Lyns saw me getting edgy when it looked like we were going to get our only sunset of the holiday and she very kindly offered to do James’ dinner and bed to allow me to go out.

I headed to Crantock Bay and ran up the dunes looking for a good spot and this is what I found. Can you spot the surfer who looked so at peace bobbing up and down on the waves?

Prussia Cove
Prussia Cove

An early morning rise saw me at Prussia Cove in time for sunrise. I had recently purchased a ten stop filter and this was my first opportunity, and actually last as well, to try it out. After scrambling over slippy rocks to get out from the bay, the tide was going out so no risk of getting cut off, this is what I ended with.

Gordale Scar
Gordale Scar

Lynsey was working and Nana and Grandad had offered to have James for the morning so I grabbed my camera and Jess, our cocker spaniel, and headed out to the Yorkshire Dales.

After a lovely walk from Malham Tarn down to Gordale Scar I found a lovely, albeit regularly photographed, spot. With Jess looking on in disgust, I waded in up to my shins and this my favourite picture from the ones I took.

Cheeky Giraffe
Cheeky Giraffe

For Lyns’ Christmas present a couple of years ago, I bought her an experience at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park to feed a giraffe as it is her favourite animal.

This is the cheeky chap that barged all the other giraffes out of the way to get at the nettles in Lyns’ hand.

Lyns’ little sister had spent all day trying to dodge having her picture taken or pulling funny faces whenever I raised my camera towards her, a rather common reaction for members of my family.

It took most of the day, but when she was not looking I got this beautiful picture of her relaxed and watching what was going on.

Dartmoor Pony
Dartmoor Pony

Another beautiful animal captured whilst on holiday in Dartmoor. I had been out for a run early in the day and had seen a herd of ponies in the distance. After getting back, I headed out with my camera and this beautiful animal came out of the mist to see me.

Highland Cow Abroad
Highland Cow Abroad

We had a family holiday in Dartmoor last year and I went out for an early walk with my camera. I stumbled upon a herd of Highland Cows grazing away. I have always wanted to get a picture of one of these powerful animals.

Hopefully, someday, I can get a picture of one in Scotland

James Under the Castle
James Under the Castle

On our holiday in Cornwall last year we visited Tintagel Castle. It was a wet and blustery day as we walked round the castle trying not to get blown off the huge cliffs.

After we had climbed down from the castle, we headed to the relative safety of the beach underneath. James had huge amounts of fun running in and out of the spray from the falls. He was in his element as it was the first time he had been this close to a waterfall.

Cousin on the Beach
Cousin on the Beach

Whilst camping on the west coast of Scotland we had a visit from Lyns’ little brother and his family.

This little man loved being on the beach, climbing on every pile of rocks he could find. Even though the weather was not great, we all had a wail of a time.
