Not too long ago, although it has been a while, York had an Ice trail where there were various Ice sculptures around York and you collected a map and followed around to see them all.

We had agreed to meet some friends in town to explore the trail with, however, we were up bright and early so headed into town before. James was super excited, especially as he managed to get a map on the bus and excitedly chattered away telling Lyns and, as well as the whole of the bus, the route he planned to take us on.

We jumped off the bus and right in front of us was Sponge Bob Square Pants, much to the little man’s delight. We were in early but already the hoards were massing so we prepared ourselves for what would be a busy day!

Lyns is currently working out her notice period before moving jobs so she was super excited when she saw a sculpture sponsored by her new employer!

We had just got to the Minster when our friends arrived in town. It was straight onto a few more sculptures before it was time to stop for lunch. I do not know who was more excited when we came across the Harry Potter area at the Lady Anne Middleton Hotel, which turned out was the epicentre of the whole event.

After exploring a bit more of the trail, it was time to head for lunch. Last year we had done the food trail round York. One of the areas it took us to was Spark, the container village just outside of the city centre. Lyns had not managed to get here an I was determined to take her and this turned out to be my opportunity.

It has the feeling of a really cosmopolitan area with lots of small stalls all with their own style and influences. The food was amazing and loved by all.

After lunch, it was time to head out and see a few more sculptures. Unfortunately, due to the warm weather, the sculptures were starting to look past their best.

We all had a lovely trip round York and it was fun to explore all the different areas. Both this and the Food Trail have taken us to areas we would not usually go, both definitely worth doing if you get the chance.
