Aysgarth Falls Many Years Later
With the whole of the weekend off, Lyns and I decided we should have a day out somewhere. The new increased Covid restrictions meant seeing anyone had become that little bit harder so we made the decision to head out by ourselves. We had been to Aysgarth Falls many years ago, as to how many times we had been previously was up for debate, so we headed there for somewhere different.
With the weather set to be nice, and knowing the carpark was small, I dragged everyone out of bed early. So early in fact that we were there before 10am, which for us, is good. Just as well really as an hour later the car park was full and people were queueing to park.
With the picnic area being by the upper falls, we headed out to do the loop that takes in the the lower and middle falls first. We accidently did in reverse, not that it made any difference.
After walking through fields, we heard the sound of water crashing over rocks. What a sight to see it was. When we had been previously, it was the middle of the summer and there was very little water. Not so this time as it had been pretty wet meaning the river was running with ferocious force.
We had a good explore of the lower falls as you can get down to the water’s edge. The middle falls proved elusive though. There is a viewing platform but because of social distancing there was a huge queue to get down to it, so we gave it a miss.
With the lower two falls done, it was time to grab our pack lunch and head over to the upper falls where there are picnic benches.
After a sit down and a bite to eat, it was time to get exploring. James was in his element as there was mud everywhere!!
Of course, no day out would be complete without a cup of tea and a piece of cake. We found a little tearoom just by the bridge and luckily they had a table free. A fitting end to a lovely day out.
